Yoga. Mind, body, soul. And then it became a ‘fashion’, and a fashion statement. Cute clothes, snuggy comfortable clothes, sexy clothes.

And now it would seem that our trendy and comfortable yoga clothing is devastating the oceans. Of course, this includes gym clothes, and many other types. But yoga …. for yoga clothes to be doing this ….

(on another topic, I learned about the mats a while back, and will not purchase anymore.)

I do not purchase new clothing. I only wear used (underwear being the exception!).

And now I look at my drawer of yoga pants and consider the irony.

There is so much we take for granted, and even more things that we never question.

We, the consumers, can change the tide of ‘junk’ clothing flooding the market. If enough of us care ….

There are many articles about this. I’ve just chosen this one as one source.

KEY LARGO, Fla. — Comfortable clothes are emerging as a source of plastic that’s increasingly ending up in the oceans and potentially contaminating seafood, according to Gulf Coast researchers launching a two-year study of microscopic plastics in the waters from south Texas to the Florida Keys.

The project , led by the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium, will rely partly on volunteers in coastal cleanup events. It also will expand a year’s worth of data collected around Florida that predominantly found microfibers — shreds of plastic even smaller than microbeads flowing down bathroom sinks and shower drains.

Yoga pants, fleece jackets, sweat-wicking athletic wear and other garments made from synthetic materials shed microscopic plastic fibers — called ‘‘microfibers’’ — when laundered. Wastewater systems flush the microfibers into natural waterways, eventually reaching the sea.

Plastic water bottles. Most are ‘one time usage’. Most think that just putting them into the recycle system solves the problem. It does not.

But it is the CREATION of the plastic water bottle that is the root of the issue. All those cases of plastic encased drinks, whether water or juice or soda …. it supports a practice that is contributing to the devastation of our Planet.

Each person has the power to stand against this. The less that is purchased, the less demand, the less profitable it is to the giant oil and gas companies.

This is our HOME. The only one we have.

“Plastic production tends to be really wasteful. A huge portion of the plastics industry is packaging—material that is immediately thrown away. In 2010 alone, over 1.5 million tons of plastic bottles ended up in the trash, and under a third of plastic bottles are recycled. Moreover, many of the bottles that are thrown away end up in the ocean. A 2015 study estimated that nearly 200 coastal countries generated over 600 billion pounds of plastic waste in 2010 — and between 11 and 27 billion pounds of this ended up in the oceans. We’ll continue to see increasingly littered oceans if the plastics bonanza continues.”

Some of the best news I’ve been reading is that individual States and towns and companies are coming together to continue the fight to save our Planet and reduce the harm we are doing.

I do not have children, yet I am passionately willing to work at being a good steward for the future generations. It is important to change the tide of consumerism and materialism into an awareness of how our choices affect the entire world.

What happens in Japan happens here, (the radiation from the leak is now hitting our waters). What WE do affects other nations. We are all connected.

Every single person can make a difference, for positive or negative.

Each of us can do our part. Reduce and Reuse. Recycling is good, but it still takes tremendous resources and not everything ends up where you think it does.

Small things add up. Bringing your own bags an containers to the grocery store. Re-using your coffee bag when you buy bulk/ground/whole bean coffee. Buying from bulk bins to reduce packaging. Supporting the Hemp industry to reduce the needs for Trees in everything from toilet paper to building supplies.

This is our HOME. The entire planet is OUR home.

God did not make borders or boundaries. That was done by mankind. God does not favor one nation over another. God Loves ALL his children. It is man who makes divisions and separations and declares ‘this is MINE’.

James 2:1-11
1 My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality.
2 For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes,
3 and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor man, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here at my footstool,”
4 have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?
5 Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?
6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into the courts?
7 Do they not blaspheme that noble name by which you are called?
8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well;
9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.
10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.
11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.”Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.

While I believe there are two ‘types’ of people (basically givers and takers), we ARE still in this together, and all are worthy of compassion. Yes, even the most vile person. It doesn’t mean you condone or approve of the behavior. It doesn’t mean we should allow cruel behavior. It just means …. we need to cultivate compassion. For all. No matter what.

John 4:8 – Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
John 4:16 — And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
